Nikki Majidi
ASI President
Nikki Majidi is a driven third-year undergraduate student majoring in Political Science with a minor in International Economics. She is determined to attend law school and after years of practice she strives to become a law professor. Determined to try new things, Majidi’s involvement on campus began as a member of the speech team for Beach Forensics. She is also a founding member of the Iranian Student Association on campus and served as the secretary. Majidi is involved in Delta Sigma Pi, a co-ed professional business fraternity on campus where she met lifelong friends.
Majidi is an advocate for women’s rights, especially those in her home country of Iran. Majidi attended multiple women’s rights marches including the “Women. Life. Freedom” movement. Additionally, she attended Nationals for her speech on the current Iranian Revolution and the liberation of Iranian women in 2023.
You can often find Majidi at the Student Recreation and Wellness Center (SRWC) or on a run, as she loves to stay active. If she isn’t working out, she’s most likely trying a new recipe or watching a new movie or TV show. Majidi continues to grow as she embraces new challenges out of her comfort zone.
Majidi’s catchphrase is “for the people,” which came to her while playing sports at the SRWC. She uses this to navigate her decisions and approach in her new role. She values authenticity, integrity and camaraderie. She plans to foster strong relationships, seek innovative solutions for campus issues and work with others to continue to advocate for the needs of students. Majidi is grateful to hold this position and is excited to make a positive impact at LBSU.
Matt Melendrez
Executive Vice President
Matt Melendrez is a third-year undergraduate student majoring in Political Science. He is determined to pursue a career as an immigration attorney, driven by the experiences of his parents and siblings who immigrated from the Philippines to the United States, with a goal of providing essential guidance to those facing similar challenges.
Growing up Filipino-American, Melendrez was instilled with the core values of diligence, perseverance, and hard work, influenced significantly by his mother’s career as a nurse and his father’s career as a medical biller. These values drove him to become more involved with his community in many different ways. His journey began with music, where he dedicated nearly a decade to mastering the piano and six years to learning the saxophone. As Drum Major of his marching band, he honed crucial skills in discipline and leadership.
Following Melendrez’s role as a student leader for music in his high school, when he got to LBSU, he became immediately involved in our Beach Community, joining organizations like the Pilipino American Coalition, where has was able to make new connections and learn about community issues. This motivated him to apply to become a Senator-at Large for the 2023-24 School Year. In this capacity, he served as the Senator for First Year Programs, collaborating with initiatives like Beach Team and BeachXP. Throughout his tenure, he prioritized transparency within the university, addressing inequities throughout our institutions, and increasing accessibility to university and ASI resources.
Today, Melendrez remains dedicated to advancing these priorities as he assumes the role of Executive Vice President.
Andre Achacon
Vice President of Finance
Andre Achacon is a second-year undergraduate student at Long Beach State University (LBSU), bringing a fresh perspective to student government. As a son of Filipino immigrants, he learned the importance of relentless curiosity. His pursuit of knowledge inspired him to become the first in his family to seek higher education at a university.
Raised in Santa Rosa, California, he moved to Southern California to major in Political Science and Government at LBSU. At LBSU, he deepened his cultural roots as a member and cabinet intern for the Pilipino American Coalition, where he made meaningful friendships. He also found community in the GenExcel Mentorship Program, TRiO, and University Honors Program, gaining unique insights into campus life. Upon graduation, Achacon is determined to attend law school to pursue a legal career and tackle the systemic barriers immigrant families face.
Before college, Achacon discovered his unwavering passion for student advocacy by helping lead student advocacy coalitions in Sonoma County. In his first year of college, he served in the ASI Lobby Corps Committee, Beach Pride Events Council, Business and Finance Committee, Senate and Board of Directors.
Advocacy aside, Achacon is a firm believer in creative exploration, with more than four years of capturing his photography clients’ unique stories through his lens. Like the uniqueness of each photograph captured by Achacon, he believes in highlighting the uniqueness of each student.
Achacon values collaborative leadership and is committed to amplifying diverse perspectives at Long Beach State University.
