Lead-Where Are They Now
Many former ASI student leaders are currently serving in leadership roles beyond their LBSU years. Although some got their start in ASB positions in High School, others gained experience in ASI at The Beach! Some of our leaders have gone on to work for the City of Long Beach, CSU Office of the Chancellor, and our very own Associated Students Inc. organization!. Robert Garcia
ASI President 2000-2001
Robert Julio Garcia served as ASI president (2000 – 01). He is an American educator and politician serving as the U.S. representative for California’s 42nd congressional district since 2023. A member of the Democratic Party, he served as the 28th mayor of Long Beach, California from 2014 to 2022.
Dr. Miles Nevin
ASI Commissioner for Public Relations 2000-2001
Dr. Miles Nevin served as the ASI Commissioner for Public Relations (2000 – 01). He is now the Associate Vice President, and Executive Director for Student Auxiliary Enterprises at Long Beach State University (LBSU)
Suzie Price
ASI President 1994-1995
Suzie Price served as an Associate Justice, a student Senator and finally ASI President (1994 – 95). She served as a City Council member for the City of Long Beach’s 3rd district and is currently a Senior Assistant District Attorney for Orange County, CA.
Uduak-Joe Ntuk
ASI Senator 2004-2005
Uduak-Joe Ntuk served as an ASI Senator (2004 – 05). He currently serves as the President for the Long Beach City College Board of Trustees and the State Oil & Gas Supervisor for the California Energy Management Division (CalGEM).
Carl Kemp
ASI President 1995-1997
Carl Kemp served as ASI President (1995 – 97). He then served as the Chief Communications Officer for Environmental Affairs at the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. Currently, Kemp is the Executive Director, Public Relations & Marketing at Long Beach City College (LBCC).
Shefali Mistry
ASI President 2006-2007
Shefali Mistry served as ASI President (2006 – 07). She is now the Associate Vice President of Government and Community Relations for California State University, Northridge (CSUN).
Joe Nino
ASI President 2017-2018
Joe Nino served as ASI President (2017-2018). He is now the Executive Director for the Cal State Student Association (CSSA).
James Ahumada
ASI President 2010-2011
James Ahumada served as ASI President (2010 – 11). He then went on to serve as the Chief of Staff for mayor Robert Garcia, and currently serves as the Senior Vice President and Deputy CEO for the Downtown Long Beach Alliance.
