AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION

American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)

AMERICAN RED CROSS

American Red Cross Lifeguarding

The SRWC, in partnership with the American Red Cross, offers lifeguarding certification classes. These classes prepare participants to recognize and respond to emergencies that may occur during aquatic activities, such as swimming, boating and diving.  Learn life-saving skills that can make a difference while awaiting medical professionals. Prerequisites

  • Minimum of four lifeguard candidates required for the session (maximum of 10 participants).
  • Be at least 18 years old by the first day of the course.
  • Swim 300 yards continuously, demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing.
  • Tread water for 2 minutes using only your legs.
  • Retrieve a 10-pound object from a depth of 6 feet within 1 minute and 40 seconds.

Requirements

  • All participants must attend every class.
  • Missed classes will result in loss of certification. No exceptions and no refunds.
  • Achieve at least 80% on all multiple-choice exams.
  • Successfully complete all physical requirements for lifeguarding skills.
  • Exhibit professionalism at all times during the course.
